Kano state governor, Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has stated that his vision is to transform the state to a leading Information and Communications Technology (ICT) hub in Africa within the four years of his administration.
Commissioning the first Kano Informatics Institute at its temporary site at the Murtala Muhammad Library Complex, in Kano on Thursday, Kwankwaso said the vision of the state government is to encourage and develop the youths to acquire the basic skills of information technology.
The governor explained that the project is in accordance with his electioneering campaign to tackle the plight of the youths and the need to take drastic action to arrest the unwholesome trend of youths who engage in criminal activities.
According to Kwankwaso, the idea of establishing the institute is to engage the youths in productive activities as well as re-position the state to meet the challenges of ICT.
“We are blessed with a sizeable number of energetic, enterprising, resourceful, young men and women, who are currently making positive impact in their chosen trade. However, there are countless number of under-employed and unemployed youths in the state, we have the potential and capacity to be productive, if given the appropriate opportunity,” he maintained.
