Kano State Police command on Friday arrested four persons for allegedly trying to plant a time bomb at Waje Friday mosque in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano.
Spokesman of the Police in the state, Deputy Superintendent of police (DSP) Mr. Rilwan Mohammad confirmed the arrest of the suspects in a press statement made available to THISDAY in Kano on Friday.
Rilwan said the suspects were apprehended around 1:30 pm on Friday after they abandoned the explosive, which was concealed in a polythene bag.
“The suspects are now in our custody and the bomb has since been defused by our bomb disposal experts,” he said.
The Police Command explained that investigation had also commenced while security had been beefed up in the area.
The police also expressed gratitude to the good people of Kano for the information it has been providing it.
THISDAY sources explained that the bomb was planted by one of the suspects within the premises of the mosque a few minutes before the start of the Juma'at prayers.
Many of the Muslim faithful, who were to attend Juma'at prayers the mosque, quickly left when they heard about the discovery of the time bomb.
It was learnt that it was some people who were at the mosque at the time that raised the alarm when they noticed the men’s action that led to the arrest of the suspects.
