Former Abia State governor and Presidential Candidate of Progressive People Alliance (PPA), Chief Orji Uzor Kalu has said that he fell out with former President Olusegun Obasanjo because of the latter’s third-term ambition.

He also declared that there is no going back on Igbo Presidency come 2015, saying that the Nigeria needs an Igbo President to unite it at this period of challenges.

Kalu, who featured on the “Guest of the Week” programme on the Kaduna-based   Liberty Radio, said Obasanjo actually consulted some of them on his third term agenda.

According the former governor, “President Obasanjo wanted Yar’adua dead during his (Yar’adua’s ) Presidential  campaign, because he (Obasanjo) wanted to be a life president and I told him it would not work because it was unconstitutional, it has no merit, and I told him it cannot work in the context of a country called Nigeria.”

He said: “It is just unfortunate that Nigeria is a crooked country, otherwise who was funding the third term? Where was the money National Assembly sharing coming from? Nuhu Ribadu saw a lot of senators being given money. In fact, they gave money to two of my senators and they brought money to me and I said go and give it back to them.

“To be honest with you, Ibrahim Mantu and the then Senate President were involved in third term. They were full supporters of third term and they came to recruit some of us but we recruited them out of the third term. It is only in countries like Nigeria that people will shamelessly believe in Obasanjo claiming he was not involved in third term.

“The whole leadership of the senate was actually working with Obasanjo on third term, they cannot deny it. It is a fact well known and that is why when the third term agenda failed they were weak because they didn’t know what to tell Obasanjo,” he said.

Governor Kalu continued when he said that the third term agenda was actually stopped by then president of United States of America, President George Bush. “Let me tell you, the man stopped the third term agenda of Obasanjo was President George Bush of United States of America because I told him what was happening and he asked President Obasanjo. That’s why President Obasanjo hates me till tomorrow.”

On the state of emergency declared on three states in the North Western Zone of the Country, the former Chief Security Officer of Abia State, stated that what President Goodluck Jonathan had done was mere deployment of troops and not declaration of state of emergency.
