The Akwa Ibom Female Football Team and their Team Lagos counterparts on Thursday qualified for the final of the female football event of the ongoing 18th National Sports Festival (NSF).
Akwa Ibom defeated Team Edo 3-0 via a penalty shootout, after battling to a goal less draw in regulation time.
Reacting to his team’s momentous victory, Coach of Team Akwa Ibom, Atta Bello-Udia, expressed joy, saying that his team deserved to play in the finals.
Udia said that his side is battle ready to take on Team Lagos, irrespective of their status as the home side.
“I am so happy that we will be playing in the final and my girls will do everything possible to win the gold medal on Saturday," he said.
In the same vein, Priye Nengia, captain of the Akwa Ibom side said that she was so excited at the outcome of the match.
“This is one of the happiest days in my life and I am so excited. We promised the people of Akwa Ibom the gold medal and we will ensure that we keep our promise," she said.
Meanwhile, in the other semi-final encounter, Team Lagos crushed Team Osun 6-0 to also qualify for the final.
The final match will come up on Saturday at the Agege Stadium.
