The Apple iPad mini is the new kid on the block, while Samsung makes some of the best-looking Android tablets you can buy. To some the Samsung galaxy is the best due to its expansion slot for storage and drag-and-feature, while the Apple iOS users will appreciate the unique feature of the Siri and blazing fast LTE connectivity on the mini.

The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 measures up at 193.7 x 122.4 x 10.5mm, making it slightly smaller, albeit thicker, than the iPad mini, which has dimensions of 200 x 134.7 x 7.2mm.

Display
The Samsung galaxy tab has a resolution of 1,024 x 600 pixels, the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. The iPad mini, has a slightly sharper a resolution at 1,024 x 768 pixels – the same one on the iPad 2.

Storage and memory
The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 ships in 8GB and 16GB versions, while the iPad mini has three capacity variations – 16, 32, and 64GB. But Samsung’s slate is upgradeable via a microSD card slot, whereas the iPad mini has no external memory extension if you want to upgrade your storage - a feature the iPad mini don’t have.

Processor
A TI OMAP 4430 is under the hood of the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. That dual-core system-on-chip is clocked at 1GHz, meaning it’s likely not that different from the iPad mini’s dual-core A5 SoC, performance-wise, especially as both use a similar PowerVR GPU.

Software
The two devices’ various operating systems are likely to be the most significance difference between them. While Samsung’s slate runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgradeable to version 4.1.1 – The iPad mini runs on the latest Apple mobile operation system, iOS 6. While some consumers will likely be swayed by the freedom offered by the Android platform, others will be drawn to the plethora of quality apps that exist in the iOS ecosystem.

Camera
Users of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 can expect decent photos with the device’s 3-megapixel rear camera. And its front-facing VGA camera should just about do the trick for basic video-conferencing and grainy self-portraits. The iPad mini, on the other hand, comes with a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing one.  On the video front, both tablets shoot 720p video at 30 frames per second.

Connectivity
The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 comes in either Wi-Fi-only or Wi-Fi + 3G versions. It also has a USB 2.0 port, and 802.11/g/b/n connectivity. Similarly, the iPad mini ships in both Wi-Fi-only and Wi-Fi + cellular models. However, while it lacks a USB port, its Wi-Fi connectivity is 802.11a/g/b/n-capable.

Battery
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0’s battery life is impressive; talk time at up to 40hrs on 2G and 20hrs on 3G. While the iPad Mini, on the other hand the battery life is 10 hours talk time, though the true-to-life number will, of course, vary depending on usage.

What You Need To Know:
The iPad will let you transfer files only via iTunes. It has NO storage expansion slot. But good

The Samsung has expansion slot for more storage, it allows you to drag and drop files with which is a plus.

iPad Useful Tricks

The Soft Reset

How to perform a soft reset which is useful in cases your iOS device freezes.

Just hold the top (power) and bottom front (home) button for a few seconds. Your iPad will restart. To force quit an application, just hold the home button by itself in a similar fashion.

Cut, Copy and Paste for Experts

Copying text is as easy as double tapping a word. But when you want to copy a whole paragraph it is easy, all you have to do is tap any editable text four times. You'll highlight the whole paragraph.

Mute
Holding down the volume down button for about two seconds will mute your iPad

Taking Screenshots
You can screenshot anything you're looking at. Push the top (power) and home buttons at once for half a second. The photo will be stored in your photo library.

Mail Preview
You can preview more mail by going to Settings -> Mail, Contacts and Calendars and select "5 lines" under Preview. Also, while you're at it, you might want to update your Push email from "Manual" if you like to have your messages waiting when you open the Mail application. Mind you, this will drain power a bit more quickly.

Bring Up the Virtual Keyboard With a Real Keyboard
When you have a Bluetooth keyboard connected to your iPad, the virtual keyboard will cease to appear. (This is a good thing.) However, what if, for some random reason, you needed that virtual keyboard? Don't unpair your Bluetooth. Just...  Hit the eject key on Apple's physical keyboard. It'll bring up the virtual one.

Put 6 Application In the Bottom Tray

By clicking and holding on any icon (just as you do to rearrange applications), you'll unlock each application position. Then just drag any two additional apps into the bottom tray. Super handy.
