An activist and President of Global Peace Movement International (GPMI), Dr. Mike Uyi, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to sack the Minister of Interior Affairs, Comrade Abba Moro for ineptitude.

He said the call became necessary as a result of the minister’s inexperience and ineffectiveness in matters relating to management of public enterprise and lack of proper investigation in the recruitment saga that engulfed the Nigeria Immigration Service.

In a telephone interview by THISDAY, the activist said if the minister had carried out proper and extensive investigation, he could not have wrongfully accused the former Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service, Mrs. Rose Chinyere Uzoma who was nearing her retirement stage of employing  people from a particular section of the country in the service.

He said if one looks at the scenario, "it is even the North that has benefited extremely in the whole thing and on top of that, she is being replaced by Deputy Comptroller General of Immigration, Rilwan Bala Muss, who will act as Comptroller General of Immigration pending the appointment of a substantive CG of Immigration."

Uyi said the facts that the former immigration boss did not secretly recruit the people of South-east and South-south political zones more than other regions of the country as alleged by some legislators and senior staff of the service was enough reason to sack the minister and others who have vested interest in the service.

He said what might have happened was that the former Comptroller might have been against some legislators and some senior staff of the service including the minister from recruiting people through the ‘back door’ and not on merit which has been the case in most public recruitments.

“Recruitment in public service is all about who you know and kick-backs, thereby weeding off qualified candidates. And it is also in the manner of some legislators and senior public servants to replace candidate’s names with their relations, cronies and well-wishers without due process or on merit. Therefore her resignation must be investigated thoroughly and fish-out those people that have interest in the saga,” Uyi said.
