Officials of Bolton Wanderers Football Club of England Youth team who were recently in the country, to conduct a coaching clinic in collaboration with the City of David FC were stunned by the exceptional display of a certain Otonye Kingsley Ikoko, whose dazzling defensive and offensive qualities held everyone speechless.
Ikoko, who is 17-year-old was first discovered at Early Stars Football Academy (now Cowbell Football Academy) owned by football pundit, Godwin Dudu Orumen.
He currently laces his boots for Cathedral Boys Football Academy, Abalti Barracks.
The light-skinned Ikoko maintains a solid balance between the right full back and the right wing position and can operate conveniently from both positions.
“Ikoko is an extremely gifted player and could also play from the inside right position. He will be very useful for the national team selectors any moment from now time. He is young skilful, strong and can hardly be beaten,” his erstwhile coach at Early Stars Academy, Sunny Inneh, commented about the lad.
Ikoko is just one amongst the glut of stars that abound in this country and his future is bright.
Grassroots football coach, Lawerence Alabrah added, “I saw him in action and I was impressed. He will go places.”
Speaking in an interview, the young star places high premium on his budding career and expressed confidence he will get to the top of his game.
“I will work hard to succeed. I know I have the capability and with the needed support and God’s grace I will get there,” stressed the promising player.
He is particularly grateful to his parents who he said have been very supportive of his football career.
“They are wonderful, always providing the support when I need it. Whatever I become they have played a massive role and till this moment, they are still a pillar,” concludes Ikoko.
