Miss Nkiru Sylvanus
Amby Uneze in Owerri

The Igbo Forum of Nollywood Practitioners has demanded the immediate release of their member, Miss Nkiru Sylvanus, from her abductors with immediate effect, even as the Imo State Government prevented the Actor’s Guild of Nigeria (AGN) South-east from carrying out its planned protest.
The group therefore urged Governor Rochas Okorocha to apply all necessary steps to ensure that his Special Assistant on Public Affairs was set free from the abductors’ dungeon.
Sources said Sylvanus was whisked away in Owerri at about 2.30 p.m by kidnappers who came in a motorcycle last Sunday, as she stepped out from a movie shooting location along Concorde Hotel road.
The bandits have since demanded N100 million as ransom from the state government to secure her release.
Not minding that the state government through a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Chinedu Offor, last Monday, promising a reward for any informant who can give information on how to get the whereabouts of Sylvanus, the forum’s chairman, Chief Haris Chuma, in a statement insisted that the state government should take the release more serious, decrying incessant abduction of figures in the industry, especially from the South-east.
The statement made available to the media on Tuesday stated: “We the members of Igbo Forum in Nollywood, a socio- cultural group, charged with the responsibility of projecting, protecting and preserving Igbo language and culture, a body concerned with the overall welfare of Ndigbo in Nollywood and the Nigerian entertainment industry at large, hereby state that the state government under the able leadership of Okorocha should be more proactive in securing the release of Nkiru Sylvanus, a Nollywood actress, and face of Ndigbo in Nollywood.”
Continuing, it said: “We are not comfortable with the increasing kidnappingof Nollywood stars in South-east. We urge the security operatives in the region to work harder and arrest this deadly scourge, and better still, bring this illegality to an end. We implore Okorocha and security operatives in the state to quickly unearth the mystery behind the kidnap of Sylvanus and deploy every means to quickly secure her release.
The statement continued further: “Kindly do the needful and save Sylvanus. No city can survive without entertainment and entertainers. We will not run away from Igboland because of kidnappers. We are Igboand will always come to Igboland to serve the people and put smiles on their faces. Government should make the region safe for us,” it concluded.
