The Executive Director, Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA), Mike Idoko, has hailed Stephen Keshi’s inclusion of six domestic league players in his final squad for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as heart warming.
Idoko told NAN in Akure on telephone that the development would spur domestic league players to step up their performances in the league.
“I would give Keshi the credit for taking six players from the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) to the AFCON in South Africa, because it is a rare occurrence.
“I believe it will serve as a morale booster for the players playing in the NPL, and I believe this is what we have been clamouring for all this while.
“Keshi started 90 percent of home based Eagles in the game against Catalonia, and they did brilliantly well, I believe they will give him results in South Africa,” he said.
Idoko added that ODSFA was particularly happy with the inclusion of Sunshine Stars’ Captain, Godfrey Oboabona in the list of AFCON bound players.
“Of course we are proud of his achievements as a player, he started from the state owned academy and he is a hardworking player.
“He has a bright future ahead of him as a defender.
“I will not forget the Governor of the state, Olusegun Mimiko who prioritised the academy as a base of nurturing talent for both Rising Stars and Sunshine Stars,’’ Idoko concluded.
