Gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram sect Wednesday killed a Director of Design and Construction in Borno State Ministry of Water Resources, Mallam Ali Mohammed Sheriff.
Sheriff’s killing, it was gathered, made it the second murder by the sect in Maiduguri within the last 24 hours.
Earlier, a Deputy Director in the Ministry of Land and Survey was shot dead on Tuesday at his residence.
The Joint Task Force (JTF) otherwise known as Operation Restore Order through its spokesman, Lt. Colonel Sagir, had advised members of the public in a press statement last week, that Information available at its disposal revealed that government officials in the state were now target of attacks.
It was learnt that Sheriff was trailed by his assailants early in the morning to his resident in Mafoni ward, while preparing to go to his office at the Water House in Maiduguri, before been shot at severally and certified dead by his killers.
A friend and colleague to the late Sheriff, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told journalists that it was unfortunate that his close friend was killed by unknown gunmen.
He said: “I am very disturbed with the security challenges facing our dear state. As I am talking to you now, we are just coming from Gwange Cemetery, where we had gone to bury the remains of our lovely and humble colleague which we will missed.”
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Gideon Jubrin, confirmed the incident, saying that security agencies have since cordoned off the area with a view to apprehending those behind the killing.
