A lawmaker representing Esan Central Local Government Area in the Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Victor Edoror, was reportedly kidnapped by unknown gunmen on Sunday.
Confirming the abduction of his fellow lawmaker, the Speaker of the Assembly, Mr. Uyi Igbe, said Edoror was kidnapped in Irrua, the administrative headquarters of Esan Central Local Government Area of the state on Sunday evening in company of his driver.
Igbe, who disclosed this to journalists, said the Assembly was informed of the kidnap by the wife of the lawmaker, adding that no contact had been established between the abductors and the family.
He added that the Assembly had suspended plenary till further notice in protest of their kidnapped colleague, who was considered a very vibrant member of the Assembly.
Edoror, who is in the Assembly on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was on his way to an undisclosed meeting within the locality when he was abducted by the gunmen.
When contacted, the acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Edo State command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Awahra Ejiroro, said the police was investigating the incident.
