Suspected gunmen on Wednesday night attacked Ja’en Primary and Farawa Islamiyya Schools in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.

Eye witnesses told reporters in Kano on Thursday, that the incident happened at about 10:30 pm on Wednesday.

The witness said the gunmen went to the primary school around 9:00 pm and ordered the security guards to leave the premises before planting improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the school.

“The blast affected about 10 vehicles that were parked in the school and two houses around the area,” the source said.

It was gathered that the police were able to defuse the bomb planted at the Farawa Islamiyya School Thursday morning before it detonated.

Spokesman of the joint military task force (JTF), Lieutenant Ikedichi Iweha confirmed the incident but declined further comment.

However when contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Magaji Majiya confirmed the incident saying the bomb disposal unit had recovered one IEDs at the Ja'en Primary School.
