Gsk Unveils Stiefel, Pysiogel

It was a double celebration for GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceutical Nigeria Limited stakeholders as it unveiled Stiefel, a GSK company and Physiogel range of beauty product . Stiefel formerly a German company with specialty in dermatology was acquired by GSK in its bid to diversify into dermatology business. The new Physiogel range of products, the first in the innovative product portfolio of Stiefel would provide the company a launch pad to play a leading role in the dermatology market segment.


Speaking at the media launch of the product held at GSK’s Ilupeju, Lagos corporate headquarters, the company’s Managing Director, Mr. Lekan Asuni said Physiogel range could not have come at a better time given the present state of poor environmental health precipitated by extreme weather conditions due to flooding, cold and hot situations prevalent in Nigeria over the last one month. “Laboratory and epidemiological studies reveal that severe weather conditions could lead to the depletion of the ozone layer and high levels of UVBs to the earth surface. This can affect the skin, causing acne breakouts, itchy dry patches of the skin.


Now, Physiogel is to the rescue. It is an innovative face and body care for dry, sensitive and reactive skin.” Said Asuni. He explained that the body lotion is produced with high-tech methods and modeled after the natural skin barrier. The technology, Derma Membrane Structure (DMS) is specially formulated with growing amount of skin-identical lipids to mimic the skin. With DMS technology, lipids essential to skin are embedded in a lamellar structure matrix, which allows the avoidance of conventional emulsifiers. Creams with DMS technology support the natural barrier properties of the skin and can be used on all skin types, including very dry, sensitive, and irritated skin.


Within the Physiogel brand, are a range of skin care products including moisturizers, anti-irritants/soothing moisturisers, and cleansers, specially designed for daily care of dry, sensitive, or irritated skin.


On why GlaxoSmithKline introduced the brand into the Nigerian market, he said as a very important market in Africa, GSK is configured to continue to innovate to ensure high quality pharmaceutical and non-prescription products are released to rapidly growing industry – the media and health fraternities.
