The Itsekiri chapter of the Federal Ethnic Council of Nigeria (FECON) has faulted the constitution of the board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Commission (DESOPADEC) by the Delta state government and insisted if some of the nominees were not changed, would likely defeat the aim of development.

Briefing newsmen Friday  in Warri, Delta State,  the group’s secretary, Prince Emmanuel Oyibo dismissed the list sent to the State House of Assembly as ‘unrealistic and non- representative’ and  warned that matter could cause disharmony in the communities. Specifically, Oyibo said that contrary to the recommendation or advice of the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Finance, relevant stakeholders like the ethnic council in Itsekiri oil producing communities were not consulted in drawing up the new DESOPADEC board members-designate. The FECON, he argued, has been “at the forefront of the agitation for equitable distribution of development projects in the oil communities through transparency and accountability in the execution of DESOPADEC projects.”
