Rivers Integrity Group has condemned the alleged plot to eliminate Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State and some of his political associates.

The group, in a statement by its Coordinator, Phillip Ezenna, noted that from events unfolding in the lingering crisis in Rivers State’ Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) it was becoming clear that there was a well-planned and well-coordinated plot to create more confusion in Rivers State and dislodge a democratically elected governor and the state’s legislature.

“For us as concerned citizens, there could not have been a better time to speak and condemn this orchestrated evil against our people. According to Edmund Burke, the famous Irish political philosopher, “evil thrives when good men do nothing.” Therefore, we call on all men of goodwill within and outside our state to rise and condemn this barefaced impunity on our land. This persecution against Governor Amaechi, to borrow a popular cliché, is a joke taken too far and we think it must end now.

“Everybody can attest to the fact that there is an astronomical improvement in our conditions as Rivers State has soared since Governor Amaechi came to office. At a time when the governor should be consolidating on the gains occasioned by uncommon vision and unparalleled courage, a few self-seeking individuals in Abuja are busy distracting him and making the state ungovernable.
“We are therefore worried at this turn of events and this needless drift.  But we are more anxious about the safety of our governor because as conscious people, we know detractors could go to any length to contest power, and premeditated killing of individuals is always an option.

“Consequently, we call on Mr. President and the relevant security outfits to intervene and address this unwarranted attack on our governor and our state before we are plunged into an unimaginable crisis. Enough is enough,” they said.
