Former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon (rtd)
Former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) will grace the second edition of the Valentine Day Golf Tournament in Abuja on Tuesday as the special guest of honour.
His stroke medal play will be the second time he will walk the fairways of IBB International Golf and Country Club in two months since he featured at the birthday kitty for JK Gadzama (SAN) in December last year.
But this time, the elder statesman will be clad in red shirt like the rest of the ‘love struck’ field for the tournament organized by the Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC).
South African Ambassador to Nigeria, Kingsley Mamabolo, his Botswana counterpart, Clifford Maribe and several officials from the British High Commission are also among the diplomats bitten by the Val Day Golf bug.
The tournament will be played on the back nine of IBB course as a dedicated 9-hole competition.
Director General of NTDC, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, Saturday said that there would be a putting competition on the 18th hole while many of the players will get some of the mind blowing prizes to be given away. The high point of the day will be the cutting of a huge Valentine cake.
