Sam Galadima added to his trophies in his cabinet after he shot 80 gross at the weekend in sodden conditions to win the first IBB at 71 Golf Classic played at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.
Over 250 amateur golfers and other guests, including General Ibarahim Babangida and Vice President Namadi Sambo, graced the tournament played on Saturday in honour of former Military President Babangida.
Babangida is the Life Patron of the club and it was during his tenure in office that the IBB International Golf and Country Club was built in 1990.
Gangling Amina Wilfred emerged the overall best gross winner in the ladies categories with the score of 84.
The overall best nett prize was claimed by four- handicapper Emeka Okatta, who edged out Moses Anabui by four- shot, with a 74 on the card.
Trophy and special prizes were presented to the winners in various men and ladies handicap flight categories.
Faridah Wada and Atta Bala, won the ladies nett in division 1 and 2 respectively, while J Sebhatu, A Nwachukwu and AO Aipoh, took the corresponding honours in men’s Division 2, 3 and 4 respectively.
The honorary ceremonial tee shot to formerly declare the tournament open, was performed by Senator John Shagaya.
Shagaya, the Interior Minister during the Babangida regime, thanked the former ruler for his foresight in approving of the construction of golf course which he noted, was helping many, particularly the retirees to stay alive, through regular recreation.
IBB was joined in the cutting of the huge birthday cake by Vice President Sambo; PDP Chairman Alhaji Bamanga Tukur; Member of Board of Trustees IBB Club, Gen IBM Haruna (rtd); his son, Aminu and some members of the executive committee of IBB Club.
