Members of the Nigerian Law School set of 1983 will, later this year, meet for the first time as group since their call to bar 29 years ago.
A prominent member of the set, Mallam Yusuf Ali, SAN made this disclosure during last week’s Annual Conference of the International Bar Association in Dublin.
Speaking with THISDAY LAWYER he remarked that the 1983 set has produced several Senior Advocates of Nigeria, including Chief Anthony Idigbe, Mr. Tayo Oyetibo, Ogun State Attorney-General Mr. Wemimo Ogunde, Dr. Eyimofe Atake, Mr. Demola Akinrele, Mr. Yunus Usman, Lawal Rabana, Mr. Adebayo Adelodun and former Solicitor-General of the Federation Professor Ignatius Ayuah.
Other members of the set include current Solicitor-General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmed Yola and the current Chief Judges of Borno State Kashim Zannah CJ and Ebonyi State, Nwankwo CJ.
The set also boasts several Court of Appeal Justices, including Uwa JCA, Agube JCA, as well as several judges of the state and federal High Courts.
The current House Majority Leader, Mrs. Mulikat Adeola-Akande is a member of that set, as are Legal Adviser NAMA Mrs. Folake St. Mathew-Daniel, former Governor of Cross River State, Mr. Donald Duke and a host of former Governors, Deputy Governors and politicians.
In the corporate sphere the set boasts Mrs. Amina Oyagbola an Executive Director at MTN, Mrs. Rume Rotimi who heads the Legal Department at MTN, Mrs. Aidevo Odu-Thomas Etisalat’s Company Secretary, CEO Eventful, Mrs. Yewande Zaccheaus and former Managing Director, UBA, Mallam Abba Kyari.
Prominent clerics in the set include Pastor (Mrs.) Nkoyo Rapu of This Present House and Pastor Femi Paul of Grace Assembly.
Included in the set is the Director, Legal Services of the Nigerian Army, Major General Gummi Abubakar.
‘It’s high time we create synergy and bond together like other sets of the Nigerian Law School have been doing for the good of their members’ said Ali.
