Mr. Jim Osayande Obazee
Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC), Mr. Jim Osayande Obazee, has been elected Chairman of the 29th session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), intergovernmental working group of experts on International Standards of Accounting and Reporting (ISAR).
The statement signed by the Media/Communications Consultant to FRC, Mr. Mack Ogbamosa, said this was the first time a Nigerian would be elected to Chair the group.
The UNCTAD-ISAR is a specialised intergovernmental forum based on consensus building and voluntary cooperation among participating countries. Obazee became the first CEO of the FRC following the enactment of the FRC Act in June 2011.The FRC is the body charged with the responsibility of registration of professionals, setting of standards for auditing, accounting, valuation and actuarial practices in the country.
Obazee joined the defunct Nigerian Accounting Standards Board (NASB) in 1993 as Senior Manager and Head of the Technical Department and rose to become the Chief Executive Officer of the Board in November 2010. Prior to joining the then NASB, he served as Lecturer of Accounting at the University of Benin from 1990 to 1993. He had also served in many capacities previously.
Obazee holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from the University of Benin, a Master of Science Degree in Accounting from the University of Lagos and a certification in Strategic Financial Analysis for Business Evaluation from Harvard University, USA. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and a professional member of the Nigerian Institute of Management and the American Accounting Association (AAA).
