Four youths were reportedly shot and killed at Tudun Wada area of Jos North local government area of Plateau State Thursday at about 7:30 pm, when youths of the area engaged in a battle with the soldiers of the military Special Task Force (STF) keeping peace in Jos.
Eye witnesses said the clash began when a fight broke out between two men at a drinking spot in the area. The Soldiers were said to have attempted to arrest the men after separating them, when the youths resisted the soldiers, saying it was the duty of the Police to arrest and not of the soldiers.
But as the soldiers insisted on the arrest, they engaged the youths in serious fracas during which four of the youths were shot death.
Confirming the incident, the STF spokesman, Captain Markus Mdahyelya, however said it was only one person that was killed. But at Plateau State Specialist Hospital, three fresh corpses were deposited, while the fourth corpse is said to have been taken to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).
The mortuary attendants at the Specialist Hospital gave the names of the three corpses (victims) as Musa Damua, Pankyes Yusuf, and John Nyam.
Though normalcy has been restored in the area, there is tension as the restive youth mobilise for a showdown with the soldiers on Friday.
