In commemoration of the 2012 Ford Week of Caring, Ford Motors Company (FMC), represented by one of its dealerships in Nigeria, Coscharis Motors Limited, has donated 100 HIV test kits to the General Hospital, Ajeromi-Ajegunle, Lagos State.
The annual event, which came shortly before the yuletide, was organised to reach out to the needy in the society.
In a message sent to the occasion, the President/CEO, Coscharis Group, Dr. Cosmas Maduka, expressed happiness that the Ford Global Week of Caring was identifying with the General Hospital, Ajegunle in fighting the HIV/AIDS scourge. Maduka explained that the Ford Global Week of Caring is an initiative of Ford Motor Company, to reach the less privileged of the society, saying during this period, all Ford dealers and employees around the world are mandated to volunteer their time and talents to make positive impact in the community they work and live.
Maduka reiterated the fact that Coscharis Motors is not a solely profit-driven company, maintaining that, that was why it aligns with Ford Motor Company on this project. “Our passion and objective is to significantly contribute to the society by identifying and supporting key specific areas and agencies towards sustainable community development. We are very proud of what we have achieved as a company in terms of our corporate social responsibilities but we do not plan to rest on our oars.
“Today is an important day for the Coscharis Motors and Ford Motor Company in that we are witnessing a substantial social investment. This event can best be described as a celebration of health and safety and it marks and complements our social investment efforts towards supporting the Government, its agencies and all other relevant stakeholders. We are highly elated to support this cause
“A planned collaboration of Coscharis Motors and General Hospital, Ajegunle, Lagos is essential to effectively reach the targets by encouraging behavioural change, organising seminar/workshop, donation of HIV test kits, town storming or road show in some selected markets and bus stops within and around Ajegunle.
“The General Hospital’s activities and efforts are well known to all. The dedication and commitment with which you have fought and are still fighting prevalent ailments like HIV/AIDS is an open secret. We commend your devotion and will continue to align with your mission in this direction.
“Naturally, we are aware of the fact that not all private operators are able to engage in social responsibility. It is for this reason that Coscharis Motors and Ford Motor Company will continuously support the government and its health institutions and agencies for present and future sustainable growth. We are confident to say that a number of government establishments have benefitted from our social investments,” Maduka said in the statement.
