Ford Motor Company (FMC) has inaugurated a $50,000 environmental campaign project in Nigeria.
Appropriately tagged the Ford Conservation and Environment Grant, the fund would be used in an environmental education program focused on creating public awareness on how to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste materials.
Introduced to Nigeria for the first time this year, the conservation and environmental grants, according to the company, underscore Ford’s commitment to the market and its communities.
Speaking at the media launch of the project in Lagos, Ford’s spokesperson in Nigeria, Laura Oloyede, said the Ford Conservation & Environmental grants program follows the Henry Ford European Conservation Awards which was originated in Britain in the early 80’s with the vision of encouraging a wide range of projects that support, preserve or restore the local environment, heritage and natural resources.
Oloyede, who is also the General Manager, Cutler Ogilvy PR, further said that as part of the RRR Campaign initiative, a radio enlightenment programme will run from now to the end of the year to enlighten and educate the people on how to preserve their local environment, heritage and natural resources.
“The Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (RRR) Campaign, sponsored by Ford is aimed at enlightening the publics on the importance of proper waste disposal; and to educate them on how to properly care for the environment.
“We can all reduce our impact on the environment by making the right choices. We all have a role to play in helping to preserve our environment,” Oloyede said.
She said the aim of the Ford’s RRR Campaign was to encourage Nigerians, especially Lagosians, to stop throwing dirt out of their vehicles, homes, and stop clogging drainage channels, roads and start disposing waste in a proper manner.
