The country homes of maverick politician, Senator Arthur Nzeribe, Executive Secretary of Nigerian Local Content, Ogbuagu Ernest Nwapa and other indigenes, including about 15 communities in Oguta local government area of Imo State have been submerged by flood as a result of the overflowing Oguta Blue Lake. The incident followed the heavy rains in the past days.
Moved by the devastation caused by the flood, the newly-sworn legislator for Oguta State constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Eugene Dibiagwu moved a motion at the floor of the House calling the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the federal government to come to the assistance of the people of his constituent.
The legislator, who also took some newsmen to inspect the flooded area which affected communities like Oguta, Eziorsu, Izombe and Osemotor, said that the extent of damage was beyond the reach of the local and state government, urging concerned multi-nationals to come to the aid of his people.
Dibiagwu stated that most of the communities in his constituency had been dislodged from their original homes by flood resulting from the Lake overflowing its banks.
He expressed dismay that most of the farmlands, the bridge leading to the country home of Nzeribe, buildings and swimming pool of Nwapa, home of Ogbuagu Gogo Nwakuche were all submerged, preventing them from getting into their homes.
