Flamingoes
Nigeria’s Ambassador to Portugal, Her Excellency (Mrs.) I.E.C Bristol was in the team camp of the National U-17 side, the Flamingoes on Wednesday morning to formally welcome the team to Portugal.
The team, which had a long 14-hour flight, had left Nigeria aboard a Turkish airline on Monday night to Istanbul before connecting their flight to Lisbon, Portugal.
Head of Chancery at the Nigerian Embassy, Portugal Mr Pascal Onwordi, along side the staff of Browns Sports and Leisure Club had earlier welcomed the team at the Lisbon airport.
“I am happy to formally welcome you girls to Portugal on your training tour. I see you all as ambassadors representing our great country, Nigeria and I enjoin you girls to behave like worthy ambassadors and make sure you represent our country well.
“Playing in a World Cup is an important thing for every player, and to be picked to represent your country is an honour which no player should play with.
“I implore you to go to Azerbaijan and make Nigeria proud. I also believe that this team can go all the way to the final and lift the trophy,” said Bristol.
The Flamingoes had their first training on Wednesday evening without any hassle.
