First Bank Restates Commitment to Kaduna Polo

The sponsor of the ongoing 2012 Kaduna international Polo Tournament at the Ahmadu Yakubu Polo Club House, Murtala Muhammed Sports Complex, Kaduna, First Bank Plc has restated its commitment to the sponsorship of the game.

Speaking at the presentation of cheque to the organisers, First Bank Group Head, Public Sector, Kaduna, Yusuf Sada, said First Bank’s commitment to the Kaduna Polo Tournament is in line with its heritage of sustenance, dependability and development of the mental and physical well-being of polo enthusiasts, business executives and sports lovers in general.

The Kaduna Polo tournament, which is reputed to be the most exciting and premier polo event in the country, was inaugurated in 1919.

Over 30 teams and players from Nigeria, Europe, America and Africa will be competing in the 10-day tournament.

At stake this year is the Georgian Cup, reputed to be the oldest and most prestigious African polo trophy. Big teams like Kaduna El-Amin, Abuja Rubicon, Keffi Ponys and Katsina Max Air will compete amongst others for this Cup.
Other major prizes to be won include Emir of Katsina Cup, NAHCO Cup and the El-Amin Cup. Over 400 thorough-bred Argentine horses are going to be used to compete at this edition.

"First Bank’s commitment to developing sports to the highest standard cannot be over emphasised; our overall goal is to create championships where existing players and upcoming contenders can take up the challenge of engaging in worthwhile ventures," said Sada.

He explained further that "at First Bank we see the sponsorship of the Kaduna Polo Tournament as an avenue to promote the prestige of the game, while also creating a platform for networking among sports lovers. Apart from these, it's also a good opportunity for polo players and enthusiasts to have first-hand knowledge about First Bank’s product and service offerings," he commented.

This year’s edition which began on Sunday is generating interest and pulling crowds to the social city of Kaduna, from within the country and abroad.

The captain of Kaduna Polo Club Ali Hassan Hadejia told the media that “We are hosting a tournament that will be memorable to all the participants and fans. I call on all lovers of polo to come to Kaduna to experience the traditional hospitality of our people. We have made adequate arrangement for welfare and security of players, grooms, ponies and spectators”.
