As part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) First Bank Nigeria Limited has donated a 30-seater Toyota bus to Olivet High School, Olivet Heights, Oyo in Oyo State.
The donation, according to the Chairman, First Bank Limited, Prince Ajibola Afonja, was also aimed at boosting teaching and learning under a convenient transportation system.
Afonja said, “It is the tradition of First Bank to give back to the society in line with the goal of its corporate social responsibility. I am encouraged by the fact that the present executive of the old students' association has been able to leverage with every member of the association even when there were challenges.
“It is always a nostalgic experience recalling the past and associating with the present. While we were students in this school we were taught how to read and how to live in the society so that it was easy for us to mix. Olivet taught us to respect God.”
Earlier in his speech on the occasion, the President, National Old Students Association, Olivet Baptist High School, Olivet Heights, Oyo, Mr. Olusegun Ahmadu, explained that the donation was facilitated by the alumni association.
He said, “Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo has always been a great school. Its greatness has been a result of contributions of great men who had passed through the school.” He explained that the bus would be in the custody of the association in order to ensure its maintenance.
Ahmadu added that “The return of schools to the missionary would ensure proper turnaround of schools in the country. There is no way the Federal Government can go round Nigeria to equip every school. There is no way government alone can provide every facility no matter how well they state tried.”
The Principal, Mrs. Adeola Ayoade, said that the school had grown as a group of schools with about 3,000 students. The school has produced governors and captains of industries and will continue to live up to expectation. The Head Boy of the school, Gabriel Adegboye, expressed gratitude on behalf of the students.
