The head office of Independent Communication Network Limited, publishers of The News Magazine and P.M. News) was Wednesday gutted by fire, which razed down the entire last floor of the three-story building.

The fire incident, which started at after 7:00p.m., completely affected the third floor housing A.M. Sports and some other companies that rented parts of the floor from the publishing firm.

The incident also lightly affected the second floor, which is the publishing firm’s advert, circulation, credit control and audit units as well as the offices of the top management staff members.

At the press time, the  cause of the incident could not be ascertained, but a source in the publishing firm linked it electrical spark, which he said, was resulted from failing to put off all office appliances in some of the firms using the third floor.

Another insider further gave insight into the cause of the incident, which he ascribed to an electrical spark ignited from an air conditioner in one of the companies occupying the third floor.

The source added that there was power outage until the closing hour. Immediately when the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, there was spark from the air conditioner which affected the entire floor.

THISDAY gathered that traffic congestion along Agidingbi and Awolowo Roads initially undermined emergency response of the Lagos State Fire Services and Lagos State Emergency Agency (LASEMA).

It was gathered that the operatives of the state emergency agencies could not arrive at the scene of the incident until the fire gutted the entire floor, though their effort stopped the fire from gutting the entire second floor.

A team of police officers from Ogba and Pen Cinema Police Divisions have been deployed to the scene of the incident to forestall hoodlums from looting and prevent situations that can lead fatal accidents.
