Fidelity Bank has expressed its commitment to the realization of the vision of the founding fathers of the National Youths Services Corps (NYSC) by supporting the scheme’s annual games.

The Managing Director of Fidelity Bank Reginald Ihejiani, made this pledge Tuesday at the media unveiling of the plans for this year’s NYSC Games.

Ihejiani, who was represented at the event by the bank’s Executive Director Northern Branch, Mohammed Balarabe, said that apart from the primary assignment, sports is one of the ways through which corps members can channel their youthful energy.

He described the NYSC programme as the most successful integration programme for youths in the country.

Fidelity Bank will provide accommodation, transport, security, track suits, medical and cash prize for all the athletes that will participate in the games.

The annual NYSC Games will begin at the Old Parade Ground, Abuja on February 3. It will feature football, volleyball, 100metres sprint, 4x100 metres relay for men and women and cultural display.

The Chairman of the NYSC Youth Organisation Committee, Alhaji Abdulwahab Obomeile, who recalled that the events could not hold last year because of a myriad of activities involving the scheme, said that all contingents who are zonal winners in their own rights will arrive in Abuja on Sunday February 3.

Gombe, Edo, Osun, Delta, Kebbi, Kaduna, Nasarawa and Cross River are the zonal champions that will vie for honours in football, while Rivers, Niger, Nasarawa, Kebbi, Delta, Lagos, Edo and Gombe will feature in volley ball.

The NYSC Games which started in 1986 was then known as the Director’s Cup, to serve as a platform for all corps members across the nation to interact, share ideas and further expand the frontiers of friendship and unity among the members.

This year’s Games will end on February 8 and will feature the Minister of FCT, Senator Bala Mohammed, Minister of Youth Development Inuwa Abdul Kadir and Minister of Sports Bolaji Abdulahi as special guests of honour.
