Chucks Omeife, president of the Nigerian Institute of Building
By Patrick Ugeh
The president of the Nigerian Institute of Building, NIOB, Chucks Omeife has accused both the executive arm of the federal government and the National Assembly of not being sincere in enacting the building code that should address the problems militating against good standards in building.
He therefore told them to urgently pass the code into a law, which would criminalise offenders and thus drastically reduce the incidence of collapsed buildings.
Omeife, who spoke at the induction of newly elected fellows and special awards ceremony for distinguished members of the institute in Abuja at the weekend, said if the government was sincere, it would have passed the law long ago.
