The Federal Government has named Mrs. Chinelo Anohu-Amazu as the Acting Director-General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom) pending the appointment of a substantive chief pension regulator.
Anohu-Amazu who was the most senior General Manager in the commission, was elevated to the lofty position following the expiration of the tenure of the Chairman and Executive members of the commission’s board on December 16.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, had since directed that the affairs of PenCom be handed over to her.
The appointee was a key player in pension reform in the country, having served in the Fola Adeola Pension Reform Committee which was set up by former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in 2003.
The team of experts worked to ensure the enactment of the Pension Reform Act, 2004 and received a presidential commendation for the quality of work done on the reform.
Before joining PenCom as the pioneer Secretary/Legal Adviser to the commission, Anohu-Amazu consulted for many private sector initiatives as well as non-governmental organisations and public institutions including the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).
As a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), she holds an LL. B. degree from the University of Nigeria and a Master’s degree in Telecommunication and Information Technology Law from the London School of Economics.
Anohu-Amazu is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London and has attended the Executive Education programme in the Wharton Business School, Pennsylvania where she obtained certification in Negotiations: Bargaining for Advantage.
She also attended the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, where she obtained a certificate in Leaders in Development: Managing Economic and Political Change and the Graduate School of Business, Columbia University.
