Ibom International Airport in Akwa Ibom State

Satisfied with the standard of facilities installed at the Ibom International Airport in Akwa Ibom State, the Federal Government has granted 24 hours operation at the airport with effect from March, 2013.
The State Commissioner for Special Duties, Austin Mbeh who disclosed this Friday while inspecting progress of work in the airport equally hinted that more than N440 million has been realised by State Government since the airport was inaugurated about three years ago.
He said the pronouncement by Federal Government for the airport to operate 24 hours has cleared the any doubt that could be associated with the operation at the airport.
The Commissioner who said the Ibom International airport was one of the fastest growing airports in the country disclosed that with two airlines presently making use of the airport more than 187, 000 passengers flew the airport annually.
The Technical Director and Consultant of the Ibom International Airport, Marco Fenini and Simeon Areoye respectively had said that works on the Maintenance, Repairs and Overhaul (MRO) facility, the 3.6km taxiway, apron and the International Terminal building would be completed by the second quarter of 2014.
Engr. Fenini lauded the decision of the state government to embark on the provision of the MRO facility which he described as a unique project that will help to maintain standard, safety and security in aviation industry in the country.
