Edo FA Cup defending Champions, Bendel Insurance on Sunday crashed out of the championship in the semi-final stage to Benin Vipers in a keenly contested encounter.
In Owerri, the Imo state version of the tourney continue to wallow in controversy as Heartland FC, who were earlier knocked out 1-0 by Police Machine, are now scheduled for a replay on Monday or Tuesday to decide who meets Mbaise Lions in the final, also scheduled for the weekend.
The irony of the events in Owerri, is that the Police Machine have continued to insist that the won the first match fair and square and don’t know why they should be forced into a replay, while Heartland say the team used policemen to intimidate their players in the first match.
In Benin City, Ilawagbon Osagie’s lone strike in the 60th minute was all Benin Vipers needed to dethrone Insurance and advance to the final, which will be played on Sunday at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in the Edo State capital.
Insurance fans left the stadium head bowed without any incidence, as Vipers fans took to the streets in celebration.
A stalemated game in the quarters between Kukuruku Dragons and Dynamite Force of Benin City will be played Monday, as preparations heighten for the finale.
