Demba Ba (L) with Obi Mikel after scoring for Chelsea

Chelsea will face Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals after Demba Ba's instinctive winner was enough to sink Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

The Senegal striker brilliantly hooked Juan Mata's lofted throughball beyond United's David De Gea to illuminate a lacklustre quarter-final replay, reports the BBC.

Moments after the second-half winner, Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech superbly denied Javier Hernandez an equaliser.

Cech also stopped a shot from the Mexican in a poor first-half.

It was an understandably cagey start between two teams vastly changed from their previous Premier League matches just 48 hours earlier.

The match opened up as United searched for a leveller but Chelsea held on to move a step closer to a fifth FA Cup final in the last seven seasons.

The Blues battled back from a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 in the original tie at Old Trafford on March 10.
