Former Comptroller General of the Nigerian Prison Service, Alhaji Ibrahim Jarma has died at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Bauchi (ATBUTH) while receiving treatment as a result of injuries he sustained from an attack by unknown gunmen Monday night near his house in Azare, headquarters of Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
Jarma was shot on Monday night by unknown gunmen when he came out from the mosque after observing a late evening prayer, The gunmen, who were two in number, also opened fire on Jerma’s security guard, killing one warder and injuring another.
Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Dr Mohammed Alkali confirmed the death of Alhaji Ibrahim Jarma in a telephone interview with newsmen in Bauchi.
He said Jarma was transferred to ATBUTH from the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare and he died while receiving treatment Tuesday in the afternoon.
A closed friend to late Ibrahim Jarma and former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Alhaji Garba Muhammad Gadi said the family will take his dead body from Bauchi to Azare for burial in the evening and described Jarma as a honest person humble, simple who accommodated and assisted all without differences.
A family source of the late Comptroller General told our correspondent that the warder killed Monday in the attack was buried on Tuesday morning in Azare.
Efforts to get the state Police Commissioner, Mohammed Ladan to speak on the incident proved abortive, but a senior police officer (SUPOL), who did not want his name mentioned, confirmed the demise of the comptroller saying that the command would soon issue a statement on the matter.
