ETISALAT’S NIGERIAN IDOL, NOW BIGGER AND BETTER

Etisalat Nigeria is providing another opportunity for Nigeria youths to sharpen and project their music talent to the global arena. The platform is the annual Nigerian Idol TV Reality show sponsored by one of the telecoms giants. The reality show which is in its third season brings together talented singers from across the nation to perform and discover Nigeria’s favourite singer. The first season saw Yeka Onka walk away with the prize and in season two, Mercy Chinwo carted away the prize.

Speaking on Etisalat’s sponsorship for the third season, the Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Wael Ammar said, “Etisalat as an organisation holds the Nigerian youth very dearly. One of our major products, easycliq has been designed to take care of their communication needs, offer them benefits such as free 15MB of data for browsing on cliq 4 the week, in addition to affordable pricing to ensure that they are constantly in touch with their peers. This quest which Etisalat shares with Nigerian Idol is aimed at youth empowerment and also provide opportunities for young people to excel as they seek to become superstars”.

Rotimi Pedro, Chairman, Optima Media Group (OMG), organisers of the Nigerian Idol Reality show, said this year’s edition promises to be the biggest and the best. He added that the competition will also be stiffer as the judges would be looking to raise the stakes in terms of the kind of talent they are looking for. He urged youths across the nation to come forward and participate as the show offers them a unique opportunity to actualise their dreams of becoming performing artistes in the Nigerian music industry.

To register, participants should go online to www.nigerianidol.com to download and fill out the form, and thereafter send a text with name and audition location to 5599. The search for this year’s Idol will take the organisers across five major cities of Nigeria: Abuja, Owerri, Port Harcourt, Benin and Lagos.  Last edition saw the winner Mercy Chinwo driving home a brand new SUV, while the maiden edition was won by Yeka Onka. Etisalat has upped this years prize with the introduction of a saloon car for the first runner up.

The first prize winner will go home with N7.5 Million cash prize, an SUV, N5 Million  worth recording contract deal, Galaxy Tab, Black berry and Ipod; first runner up will be rewarxed with N1.5Million, Salon car, Galaxy Tab, Black berry and Ipod while the third prize winner will be rewarded with N1 Million, Galaxy Tab, Black berry and Ipod and N100,000 each, Galaxy Tab, Blackberry and Ipod for all other finalists.

The show will take place over a six months period which would begin with auditions and short listing of entrants, after which there will be eliminations up until the live show. Auditions for the show will take place in Abuja on October 13 and 14, move to Port Harcourt from October 20 and 21, for the first time in the city of Owerri it will hold on October 27 and 28.

Also for the first in Benin City, auditions will take place on the 3rd and 4th November 3 and 4 and finally, on November  9 and 10 in Lagos. Airing of the show will commence in December on STV, NTA and AIT networks.
