United players celebrating their second goal against Everton
Ryan Giggs scored for the 23rd consecutive season as Manchester United beat Everton to open up a 12-point gap at the top of the Premier League.
Giggs tapped Robin van Persie's pass in off the inside of the post to sustain a scoring streak that goes back to his debut season in 1990-91, reports the BBC.
Van Persie doubled the margin of victory with his 19th goal of the campaign on the stroke of half-time.
Everton's best chance came with Nikica Jelavic's low second-half shot.
Watching from the stands at Old Trafford taking notes on the match was Jose Mourinho, whose Real Madrid take on the Red Devils in Wednesday’s first leg, first knock out stage of the UEFA Champions League in Madrid.
Meanwhile, in the early kick off, Aston Villa's hopes of Premier League survival received a major boost as two quick-fire goals saw off West Ham and moved them out of the bottom three.
After a poor first half, the hosts went ahead through Christian Benteke's penalty after Mark Noble clumsily fouled Charles N'Zogbia.
N'Zogbia doubled the lead moments later, curling in a 20-yard free-kick.
