Jermain Defoe scored twice

Jermain Defoe scored twice as Tottenham cruised past Premier League newcomers Reading to earn Andre Villas-Boas his first victory as Spurs manager.

The visitors dominated before the break but their only reward came when Defoe struck after a sweeping move involving Aaron Lennon and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Gareth Bale's scuffed strike looped in to make it 2-0 and Defoe fired home his second after a superb 40-yard run, reports the BBC.

Reading replied in injury time through Hal Robson-Kanu's close-range effort.
