Chelsea versus Manchester United is the biggest game of the EPL weekend
After a lull, Sunday throws up another ‘Super Sunday’ for English Premier League (EPL) lovers when unbeaten Chelsea host Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea may be defending European Champions, but at the start of the season not many EPL watchers had put them down as genuine title contenders instead it was the Manchester teams – United and City – that was on everyone’s radar.
Also many had tipped Roberto Di Matteo for an early exit despite winning the UEFA Champions League, because they did not believe he had what it takes for the ‘slug’ that is the EPL campaign.
Instead not only has Di Matteo defied the odds he has also surprised many by upstaging the favourites at the top of the log. Although these are still early days Di Matteo has to a certain extent given Roman Abramovic the kind of Chelsea he had craved with the Blues’ jettison the defensive nuance which helped them conquer Europe last campaign for a more expansive game which is more pleasing to the eye.
Last season United’s come from behind 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge played a big part in Andre Villas-Boas’ exit from the London club.
However, this season, the Blues more than United look the more likely title contenders and on current form must be favourites against the Red Devils.
But as every football aficionado knows form is the first thing to go out of the window when heavyweights clash and it is the team that shows up on the day that is likely to carry the day.
Also different mid-week results in Europe have also added extra spice to the mix with Chelsea losing 2-1 to Shakhtar Donetsk and United coming from behind to beat Braga 3-2.
But while my heart is craving for a favourable result for United my mind is telling me to prepare for the worst!
