Ahead of next week’s international test drive of the new CERATO in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, KIA Motors Nigeria has unveiled its top-of-the-range luxury sedan that is apparently positioned to change the game in its segment at a modest ceremony in Lagos.

The event, which was attended by a powerful delegation from the Korean headquarters of the auto manufacturer, also had in attendance KIA dealers from different parts of Nigeria, auto journalists, advertising agency representatives, as well as staff of Dana Motors Limited, sole marketers of KIA vehicles in the country.

The unveiling of the all-new Kia Quoris , the luxury flagship expected to power the Kia brand into an entirely new segment of the global automotive market, was performed by the leader of a visiting KIA delegation and Sales Manager, Middle East and Africa, Mr. Homer Kim, who was assisted by the Chief Operating Officer of Dana Motors, Mr. Gitesh Yangnik, and other top officials of the company.

The ceremony came as Kia Motors Nigeria said it had received the first shipment lot of the all-new Quoris flagship sedan in Nigeria which comes with five years unlimited mileage warranty.

Described as the first modern rear-wheel drive, Kia Quoris tops the global model range and is a true landmark vehicle for the company, combining stylish design with luxurious comfort, engaging driving dynamics and advanced high-tech features.
According to the manufacturers, the name ‘Quoris’ conveys solidity, luxury and high-technology, all resonating together as a chorus.  The name is derived from the English words ‘core’ and ‘quality’ and hints at the attributes within the very heart of KIA’s new flagship.  The decision to adopt this unconventional name, according to the Korean auto manufacturers, is to ensure that Kia Quoris will stand out even further from the established crowd.
“We are delighted to bring the KIA Quoris to Nigeria to enable our customers have a feel of this classy, luxurious and high technology model from KIA Motors”, Chief Commercial Officer of KIA Motors Nigeria,  Mr. Sandeep Malhotra, said at the unveiling ceremony.

According to Malhotra, “Kia Quoris adopts a number of intelligent safety technologies never before seen on a Kia, in order to deliver maximum driver comfort and safety.”,

With a 5,090 mm overall length and 3,045 mm wheelbase, Kia Quoris offers generous interior space.  Overall width and height are 1,900 mm and 1,490 mm respectively which creates a spacious cabin environment while efficient aerodynamics and close attention to exterior detailing result in a highly competitive drag coefficient of Cd 0.27.

And Kia’s Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer, is quite fascinated at the confident stance of the premium large sedan. “Kia Quoris is all about elegant simplicity, balanced proportions and simple surfaces,” he said.  “The class-leading long wheelbase, the prestige distance, large wheels, sharply upright short overhangs and a long sweeping shoulder line all work together in harmony to give Kia Quoris a sporty, athletic proportion and a confident stance quintessential to a premium large rear-wheel drive vehicle.”

In his presentation at the unveiling ceremony, Marketing Manager, Kia Motors Nigeria, Mr. Kayode Adejumo, said the Kia Quoris is powered by an upgraded 294 ps Lambda V6 3.8-liter MPI engine. The normally aspirated twin DOHC 3.8-liter engine, according to him,  is equipped with dual continuously variable valve timing (CVVT) and a variable intake system (VIS).

Adejumo said every Kia Quoris comes with Kia’s all-new eight-speed automatic transmission mated to an innovative SBW(Shift By Wire) technology that helps save space and weight while reducing engine noise in the cabin.  “The excellent handling balance of Kia Quoris delivers a host of driver benefits – improved traction, greater road holding, enhanced braking stability, and enhanced turn-in.  Adopting rear-wheel drive also enables to create a purity of steering response and feel,” he also explained.

Other contemporary features of the new luxury sedan will surely give cars in its segment a good run. With safety as priority, an additional night-time safety is provided by the AFLS (Adaptive Front Lighting System) – fitted as standard – that works in conjunction with the full HID headlights.  The dipped-beam which automatically moves up/down, left/right, controlled by the AFLS which reacts to vehicle speed and steering angle.  It delivers a continuously varying (and most appropriate) light pattern while also turning the lights to better illuminate bends.  And to assist Kia Quoris drivers, the new sedan is equipped with PGS (Parking Guide System).  The system features automatic steering control by an on-board computer to safely perform parallel parking.  The computer ‘takes over’ the task of steering, while the driver remains in control of the accelerator and brake.

The Active Safety system comes standard with ABS (anti-lock braking), BAS(Brake force Assist System, ESC(Electronic Stability Control), HAC(Hill Assist Control), VSM(Vehicle Stability Management) and EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution). EBD monitors the car’s load, the combined weight of occupants and cargo, and adjusts the front/rear distribution of the braking pressure to enhance retardation.

In order to ensure high-tech protection for its occupants, every Kia Quoris enables them to enjoy a sophisticated, refined and luxurious interior.  Trimmed in NAPPA premium leather, both the front seats are powered, heated and ventilated.  The driver’s seat features 16-way adjustment and memory settings for two users, while the passenger seat has 10-way adjustment.  The regular rear seat has three-stage heating of the cushion and backrest, with manually adjustable lumbar support and a folding centre armrest.

A special ‘VIP’ option will offer twin heated and ventilated rear seats with a reclining backrest, sliding cushion and lower leg support for the ‘nearside’ seat, together with a front passenger seat that slides forwards when unoccupied.

The interior is exceptionally spacious and the cabin can be bathed in natural light as the large powered glass tilt‘n’slide sunroof is standard on all Kia Quoris models.  Trunk space is also generous – with 455 litre capacity.
A one touch mechanism lowers or raises the automatic rear window shade for better privacy and enhanced protection from harsh sunlight.

Also coming with a premium lexicon audio system and multi-media rear seat entertainment, the in-vehicle infotainment system available for Kia Quoris is powered by the Intel Atom processor.  The touchscreen on the dashboard allows the driver to take advantage of state-of-the-art functions and services, while the backseat display supports a variety of video formats to entertain passengers. A rich multi-media with premium sound and high-definition displays on dual 9.2-inch monitors mounted in the back of each front seat is provided.  The folding center armrest for the rear seats incorporates a complete set of controls for the multi-media system.

Kia Quoris features a premium audio system from Lexicon by Harman, the renowned creator of truly concert-hall standards of sound reproduction.  Consisting of 17 speakers and a 12-channel trunk mounted digital amplifier, Quoris’s sound system utilises acoustic lens technology to deliver consistent sound quality throughout the cabin while an inverted subwoofer translates into more trunk space and the ultimate in bass performance.
