The fate of the Bakassi people will be discussed at a national conference of eminent Nigerian leaders in Lagos on Wednesday.
This disclosure was made Sunday in Lagos by spokesperson of National Consensus Group (NCG), Mr. Olawale Okunniyi.
Okunniyi said the special national conference of eminent national leaders, key stakeholders and experts on the raging controversy over Bakassi; ceded to Cameroun by a ruling of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) is being organized in conjunction with the Citizens’ Advocacy Group, CAG, an affiliate of PRONACO
He said the national dialogue slated for Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at the Lagos Airport Hotels, Ikeja is scheduled to commence at 11.am under the chairmanship of the Leader of Project Nigeria, Prof. Ben Nwabueze,
The PRONACO Chief also disclosed that the forum is expected to receive crucial intervention and contribution from delegations from the Nigerian National Assembly, Presidency, Camerounian Embassy, government of Cross Rivers State and eminent Nigerians across the six geo-political zones of the country in resolving the very burning issue of Bakassi as it concerns the interest of the peoples and Citizens of Nigeria.
“In light of the centrality of the Bakassi saga to the stability of Nigeria, this very important national convergence is also expected to be attended by relevant officials and delegations from both the Federal Government and state governments in Nigeria, Representatives of Nigeria-Cameroun Mixed Commission, Camerounian Envoy to Nigeria as well as Attorneys and Advocates of Nigeria on the matter, Ethnic and Labour Leaders among others to adopt a more popular perspective on the burning issue in preventing the degeneration of the heightening tension and crisis at Peninsula.”
