The Ekiti State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has said that it has received information of plans by the Ekiti State Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to embark on a campaign of calumny to smear the image of some of its governorship aspirants and also lure unwilling youths with money to humiliate PDP leaders.
Speaking with journalists in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, saturday, the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Pastor Kola Oluwawole, said the ACN which felt it had failed by the undemocratic methods it had used to curtail the growing popularity of the PDP and acceptance of its aspirants by the Ekiti people have decided to embark on campaign of calumny on the belief that Ekiti people would turn their backs on the PDP.
Oluwawole said PDP has alerted the police of underground plan to further disrupt the lawful activities of its party, stressing that the ACN has forgotten that Ekiti people could never humiliate their benefactors.
“Afterall, what has the youths benefitted from Fayemi administration?,” he asked.
Pastor Oluwawole said in the last two weeks, some ACN thugs coordinated by a security aide of the governor had allegedly launched a violent attack on the PDP members at their rallies in Oye, Ikere, Efon and Ilawe, wounding them in the process.
He also stated that a staunch ACN member led some thugs to allegedly ambush the convoy of Mr Ayo Fayose but the former governor was not in the car and his driver was terribly beaten.
Oluwawole said ACN was disturbed because the alleged violent activities of its members had only encouraged the PDP to forge ahead in its resolve to dislodge ACN from power in the state in 2014.
