Gov. Kayode Fayemi
A coalition of non-governmental organisations in Ekiti State, the Movement for Peace and Good Governance in Ekiti has described the trial of former vice chancellor of the Ekiti State University , formerly University of Ado-Ekiti , Professor Dipo Kolawole, as a continuation of the State governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi's regime of vengeance.
The group which warned Fayemi of the dare consequences of his persecution of his perceived political opponents said; "It is curious and beyond the comprehension of any sane mind that a VC will be accused of forging letterheads of a university under his control."
Rising from its emergency meeting in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, MOPEGO said in a statement jointly signed by its chairman, Dr Tunji Oluwasanmi; Secretary, Comrade Ebenezer Olaleye; and director of communications, Comrade Gbenga Babawibe, that” Fayemi and vengeance- seeking people must not take the silence of Ekiti people for granted because if he continues, Ekiti people will be forced to fight back."
According to the group, "The questions Fayemi and his cohorts must answer are why it was only Professor Kolawole that was brought to court? Why were the former bursar, Mrs. F. M. Fapounda and manager of the university branch of the United Bank of Africa , Dipo Ajala not arraigned yesterday?
"Was it because Dipo Ajala, the alleged mastermind of the fraud is an in-law to Action Congress of Nigeria senator and Fayemi's lawyer, Anthony Adeniyi? Is Fayemi unaware of the Police Investigating report, audit report and House of Assembly probe report that cleared Prof Kolawole of any financial wrongdoing, particularly the one on which he was charged to court yesterday?”
"And what interest was Fayemi serving by sending officials of the State Board of Internal Revenue to the courts yesterday to ensure that Tax Clearance Certificate was produced to effect Prof Kolawole's bail as ruled by the Magistrate Court?
"Also, why was Mr. Julius Ajibare, Personal Assistant to the State Attorney General, Mr. Dayo Akinlaja in court yesterday, demanding to know Prof Kolawole's bail condition?
"Answers to these questions point to one thing, Fayemi is just persecuting Prof Kolawole because he refused to withdraw the case he filed to challenge his unlawful removal as EKSU VC as demanded by the governor.
