The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has distributed cheques worth N121,150,000 as housing and car loans to 383 beneficiaries of the Local Government Loans scheme in the state.

On the distribution of loans, Fayemi said his administration was committed to the welfare of the workforce and is opening up avenues for them to benefit from government’s largesse.

The loans, he said, was to assist the workers get money to build their personal houses and purchase their cars and consequently have time to focus on the job.

He advised the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the loan for the purpose for which it is meant.

Fayemi has also denied the recent rumours making the rounds that the state government has concluded plans to sack some local government workers in the state, following the outcome of the verification exercise embarked upon by the state government.

The governor, who cleared the air in Ado-Ekiti recently, described the rumour as untrue. According to him, government had neither retrenched nor has any plan to retrench the council workers, adding that the ongoing sanitation of the system should not be confused for retrenchment.

He explained that the ongoing sanitation exercise was aimed at proper placement of staff members for optimal performance as well as rid the system of people who have exceeded their years of service at the council through age falsification and other fraudulent means.

He advised that anyone who claimed to have been retrenched without justifiable reasons should protest the gesture through appropriate channels so that the case could be looked into.

Earlier, Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Chief Ranti Adebisi, had commended the governor for the immediate restoration of the loan scheme and approval for prompt distribution of the loan.

Adebisi added that the local government workers were hardworking, honest and responsible people, who were ready to contribute their quota in restoring sanity to local government administration.

One of the beneficiaries, Adekile Bosede, commended the Fayemi-led administration for approving the loan; saying that the gesture shows that the administration is worker-friendly.
