At least eight persons were shot dead last night by unknown gunmen believed to be in military uniform at Heipang, near Jos, Plateau State.
Several others also sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to the hospital.

Efforts to get the spokesmen of the state police command and the Special Task Force (STF) to confirm the incident proved abortive.
But a resident of Heipang, Monday Gyang, said: “We were just drinking at a local beer joint which is very close to the road when all of a sudden, a Hilux van just stopped and the occupants opened fire on us.

“On hearing gunshots some of us escaped. We later came back to meet that eight persons were dead.

“The gunmen appeared like soldiers because they were in army camouflage, we even know some of them and they came in army vehicle.”
Chairman of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Hon. Emmanuel Loman, also confirmed the killing.

Loman said: “I just left Barkin Ladi about an hour ago when I received a call that eight people have been killed. This is shocking to me because there is just no cause for this. I am confused mostly because the people who saw the killings said it was done by some soldiers they know in the area. That is the initial suspicion, the security agencies will unravel the truth of the allegation.”
