Following the outcome of last Saturday’s governorship election in which the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) emerged victorious, a caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state has given the leadership of the party a 48-hour ultimatum to resign or face the dire consequences.

The caucus under the aegis of Stakeholders Forum, arising from an emergency meeting held in Benin City yesterday to appraise the outcome of the election called on the national body of PDP to institute a probe panel to investigate the funding and finances of the state executive in the last three years.

But in swift reaction, the Director of Publicity and Strategy, Okharedia Ehimekpen, dismissed the threat of the leaders of the forum, describing them as political jobbers who are not true members of the party He added that they were the once that worked against the party in the last poll which the party lost woefully. He said the author of the press release was not know in the party, saying that the method of approach in the said statement was akin to the party’s way of discipline for erring members if found wanting.
In a letter signed by Kamin Bello Asunogie on behalf of the forum, the Alhaji Bamanga Tukur-led National Executives Committee (NEC) was urged to constitute an interim committee to oversee the affairs of the party in the state pending when congresses will be held to elects new officers.

According to the letter, “The forum examined all the past Edo State PDP elections and defeats since 2007 and therefore resolved that the present state executive and leadership do not have the capacity and leadership drive to lead our great party from eminent death in Edo State .

“Orbih and his executive lack the credibility to lead our party in any electoral victory which is the hall mark of the existence of a political party in any political systems”.

The PDP Stake holders Forum seriously called on the national body and President Goodluck Jonathan to disregards any lists of nominations from Edo State PDP to Federal boards or any appointments.

“The leadership of PDP in the state have failed to represent the interest and wishes of it members. The result of the July 14, 2012 was clear to all Nigerians.

It therefore appealed to all members of the party that defected to other parties in the state as a result of bad leadership of Chief Dan Orbih-executive, to return and join in the efforts of rebuilding the party.
