Comrade Adams Oshiomhole

Ahead of the Local Government poll in Edo State scheduled for April 20, the Taraba State chapter of a group, Afemai Youth Association (AYA), has accused the state governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, of imposing candidates on the people for the election.
The group, in a statement signed by its Secretary, Mathew Osiapi, which was made available to newsmen, alleged that Governor Oshiomhole jettisoned democratic principles by single-handedly selecting candidates and predetermining the outcome of the local government primary elections held across the state.
Berating the governor on his role in the primary election, the group noted that it is sad and unsavoury that Comrade Oshiomhole, who was a major proponent of one man, one vote and an antagonist of god-fatherism in politics, could select candidates for the local Government poll rather than allowing candidates to emerge through democratic processes.
Expressing its preparedness to expose the game plan of those it accused of trying to create disaffection and under-develop the region politically, the group disclosed that dissatisfied contestants in the primary election have protested the outcome and unsatisfactory role of the state governor, saying as a virile organisation, it would not compromise its interest in the socio-political development of the state.
“The association notes with ill- feeling, the hatched racket which led to imposing unpopular candidates on the electorates in some local government areas of our state. While it remains a fact that the issue of one man selecting candidates to run our local poll negates the principle of fair play and justice, we are surprised to learn that our comrade governor whom we rallied round to bring to power as a result of his firm belief that the act of imposing candidates on the people by previous government was adversely responsible for the underdevelopment of the state, could now turn round and allow himself to be caught in the web”, the statement said.
