Edo: Group Raises Alarm over Exclusion

Conference of Non Governmental Organisations in Edo state (CONGOs) Wednesday raised the alarm over Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] selection of observers and monitors in the Edo State forthcoming governorship election.

The organisation said although there was need for monitoring of the elections by nongovernmental and civil society organisations, they are compelled to draw the attention of Nigerians especially people of Edo state to a grand and glaring plan to exclude grassroots and Edo state-based organisations from observing the elections by INEC.

In a statement issued by the President and Public Relations Officer of the group, Jude Obasanmi and Destiny Enabulele respectively, CONCO’s noted that of the more than 22 organisations pencilled down by INEC for the task, only 2 are based in or operated in the state was selected.
