There will soon be a new lease of life for Ekiti women as the Ekiti Development Foundation (EDF) and FM Best Bargain Nigeria Limited has concluded plans to train women and empower them in areas of trade, business ownership and entrepreneurship skills.

Managing Director of FM Best Bargain, a fast growing multi-window sales outfit, Alhaja Afolake Jamiu, stated this at the inauguration of the company’s customer loyalty’s programme in Lagos recently.
She said her firm decided to partner the foundation and provide free training for women as a way of contributing to the development of the state.

According to her , “As part of our contribution to the development and empowerment of women in Ekiti state, we have initiated moves to support the EDF by training women free of charge in areas of trade and entrepreneurial skills, so that women would not have to continue to depend solely on handouts from men to survive,”

Wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Chief Bisi Fayemi, who unveiled the company’s empowerment programme, commended the management of FM Best Bargain for the laudable project, adding that Ekiti Development Foundation was ready to partner the organisation for the women empowerment initiative.

Fayemi, who is also the chairperson of the EDF, which she founded in June last year, noted that EDF in conjunction with the ministry of women affairs would provide a token empowerment for beneficiaries of the scheme to enable them set up a similar business of their own after the completion of the free training scheme.

While urging the women folk to emulate the ingenuity and the entrepreneurial skills of Jamiu, she admonished them to work hard and not to see them as playing a second fiddle to men.
Fayemi was full of praises for the FM Best Bargain boss for being able to grow her business from a mere corner shop in 2004 to a massive shopping window with several departments such as Body Care, Furniture, Electronics and Baby/Mother care in less than a decade.
According to her, “Alhaja Jamiu shall continue to remain a very good example not only to women but also to men”, adding that she had shown that women could actual nurture businesses and organisations to fruition.
