Master Mariner, Captain Iheanacho Ebubeogu, has taken over as the new Head, Public Affairs of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
His emergence as the new image maker of the multibillion naira Federal Ministry of Transport parastatal followed his appointment as the new General Manager, Public Affairs last month in a major shake-up, which also affected the former occupant of the position, Chief Michael Kayode Ajayi.
Ebubeogu, in a statement issued in Lagos, expressed his determination to consolidate and build upon the legacies of Ajayi in the pursuit of his mandate. According to him, he would do everything possible to establish what he called “global best practices” in the Public Affairs Department of the authority.
Ebubeogu stated this at NPA House, the corporate headquarters of NPA at Marina, Lagos, shortly after taking over from the reins of administration from Ajayi. He called on the media and other stakeholders in the maritime industry to give him maximum cooperation, stressing that his success will impact positively on the organisation.
Ajayi had earlier in his opening remarks said he has done his best to raise the bar of effective media relations for the authority by providing necessary working tools for the department.
Ajayi, popularly called “double chief” by some journalists because of his two traditional chieftaincy titles from his home town in Kogi State, stated that he has been able to train officers of the department to the required standard.
While appreciating the support and cooperation from the media which enhanced his success, he enjoined the media to extend the same to his successor.
Prior his new role, Ebubeogu was the erstwhile General Manager, Marine and Operations. He was also a former Publicity Secretary of Nigerian Association of Master Mariners (NAMM) for eight years.
Speaking on behalf of the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), its President, Mr. Bolaji Akinola, commended Ajayi for his achievements and pledged the association’s support for the new General Manger.
Highlight of the occasion was the exchange of documents between the former and the new General Managers.
