EbonyLife a multi-broadcast media and entertainment network has announced its intention to partner with a select number of leading indigenous African and international brands on the roll out of its global media and entertainment network.
The roll out is starting pan African wide on the DStv platform by virtue of a channel distribution agreement signed with Mulitichoice Africa earlier this year and a Joint Venture Agreement signed with the Cross River State Government on building Africa's first Global multi-broadcast platform, at Studio Tinapa.
The EbonyLife Roll out distribution strategy includes Sky TV in the UK and DISH in the United States, with Brazil, Canada and other parts of Europe in the pipeline.
One of the most exciting value propositions of the EbonyLife offering is its partnership with Globecast, the leading global provider of content management and worldwide transmission services for professional broadcast delivery, to provide technical backbone and drive EbonyLife’s content distribution on android, tablets, mobile and web.
The vision of EbonyLife is to position African brands where they truly belong with other leading global brands. Therefore, for the first time, Nigerian, and indeed, African high networth and even growing brands, will have the opportunity to stand shoulder to shoulder with international brands on a global stage.
According to Mo Abudu, CEO of EbonyLife, "The Western media has sold us the best of the West, even Asia has joined that race; it is time to not only sell Africa to the world but to ourselves."
Abudu added, "Our unique value proposition for both indigenous African and international global brands is that we can deliver you bang to that most important demographic on the continent that boasts over 1 billion consumers. And we are now in a position to take indigenous African brands to the rest of the world, giving everyone the best of both worlds - it doesn't get any better. On the DStv platform we will immediately be transmitting to and watched in over 46 African countries and by over 8 million viewers.”
EbonyLife began production in September 2012 with the US State Department collaboration on Culture Connects, a cultural journey to explore the traditions and values that Africa and America hold dearly.
It has also begun pre-production for its programming at its headquarters at Studio Tinapa in Calabar, being the first network and distribution platform in Africa to produce over 700 hours of premium original content made in Africa for a global audience.
EbonyLife content will include drama, comedy, factual, reality, lifestyle, talk and magazine.
EbonyLife takes pride in the team of experts it has built to achieve a task never done before on the continent.
In the light of this, Abudu said, "We have brought together a world class team of industry experts to make this dream achievable.”
She said further, “Farrell Meisel is our Head of Channel; he is a seasoned media executive, who has served as CEO and GM launching and managing networks from the U.S., Russia, Germany, The UK, Eastern Europe, Mideast, S.E. Asia and Afghanistan. He has lived and worked in these territories, providing hands-on general management leadership in news, entertainment and thematic movie channels, using new media tools to expand the brands.
"He is supported by three directors of programming Marc Lober, Emmy-nominated and one of the most experienced multi-genre producers and production executives in the international TV business; Pamela Ofoegbu, who has an enviable track record working with all genres of television programming across West Africa; and Sandra Amadio, who has produced high end programming for South Africa’s top-rated shows on SABC2 and 3 as well as a host of independent documentaries."
The EbonyLife team also consists of broadcast operations experts, technical and production crew from all walks of life who are committed to the vision of building Africa’s first global black media and entertainment network.
And most important of all is EbonyLife's partnership with the Cross River State Government. In line with the state government’s strategy for development.
EbonyLife is helping to build a thriving film, TV and music industry through strong international partnerships that develop local talent and empower the next generation by creating a media and entertainment hub at Tinapa that will proudly represent Nigeria, as well as Africa.
